The two year, full time, residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme is designed to help in imbibing a holistic approach towards solving business and management problems. The programme participants are expected to develop analytical and creative thinking abilities and build leadership skills for managing and leading in a dynamic and innovative global environment. The curriculum provides a clear career path towards corporate and societal leadership. Apart from learning from the faculty members as well as from industry experts, the participants also learn each day working and collaborating with talented classmates who are drawn from many disciplines and backgrounds. The objective of this programme is to develop thought leaders for an economically and ecologically sustainable society.
The PGDM curriculum comprises of a blend of core and elective courses, assorted from different functional as well as cross functional areas. The Institute offers ample opportunities for all round development of an individual through a pedagogy structured towards active experiential learning and participant oriented case methodology. It includes a number of seminars and a capstone course designed by industry experts and eminent academicians from India and abroad. The Institute regularly updates its curriculum to reflect cutting edge changes in the business environment and the requirements of the society at large.
The Institute actively participates in research activities relevant to the industry through in-house faculty members and collaborative research with similar organizations. One of the most important elements of current research is to focus on issues related to regional development and the impact of business activities on the natural environment. The Institute actively contributes to research in economically, socially and ecologically sustainable management systems. Participants are encouraged to engage, in addition to the industry and academia, in local area and community activities to understand the issues faced by the community, and to facilitate information exchange and participatory learning. The curriculum emphasizing collaborative and interdisciplinary learning encourages all-round development of participants through self-reflection, and participation in extra-curricular activities in sports, literature and fine arts.
The Institute follows judicious blend of class room teaching, case analysis, simulation, modeling, scenario building, industry analysis etc. as pedagogy. Active participation in the learning process allows the budding managers to acquire knowledge, attitude, skills and a mindset to handle varied and complex business problems successfully.
IIM Shillong alum actively engage with participants of the programme through Industry interactions and field visits and other collaborative activities that introduce them to the world of work.
In addition to the class room and experiential learning, IIM Shillong believed that a comprehensive learning process must include interactions with people who are behind the successes of corporates, businesses and social organizations. Classroom learning and learning from the experience of these people complement each other.
IIM Shillong aims to produce individuals with a ‘Global outlook with local experience’ by providing a mix of learning methodology comprising of class-room teaching, field studies and industry exposure.
